Coach Czayka on the first half of the season and the goals for the second half

SC Velbert got off to an excellent start in the Velbert Indoor City Championship, but ultimately finished fifth. Coach Dennis Czayka was available to answer questions.

After a perfect preliminary round with 15 points and 18:0 goals from five games, SC Velbert still missed out on qualifying for the semi-finals on the final day of the indoor city championships.

In the game for fifth place, the Landesliga team was able to at least beat Türkgücü 2:1 despite trailing 0:1 at half-time. SC coach Dennis Czayka was still dissatisfied afterwards, mainly with the intermediate round.

The tournament was a reflection of the season so far. Velbert also started the first half of the season well with five wins from the first six games, after which things were more mixed.

Forecasting talked to Czayka about…

… the course of the Hallenstadtmeisterschaft: “We wanted to play for the trophies on the last day, so we are a little disappointed. We gave that away in the intermediate round. But we ended on a high note with a decent performance. But more would have been possible.”

“Ultimately, we would like to finish in the top third again.”

.. the season so far: “With our young team, you always have to expect fluctuations in performance. We got off to a good start and then had phases where we scored fewer points. Overall, I’m satisfied with the result, but we still have room for improvement.”

… his time at SC Velbert: “We are on an excellent path. When we started here, there was an immense reconstruction. We made a big cut. Our team has an average age of about 21 years. It wasn’t directly about a re-entry. But we did well in the first year and finished sixth.”

No changes to the squad during the winter break

… the goals for the second half of the season: “We want to become a really good Landesliga team, we haven’t been that yet. But we’re on the right track. We want to be in the top group in the near future. We haven’t been able to do that yet. Of course, we are in a bit of a no-man’s-land in the table. Nevertheless, we would like to improve our points average again and generally improve. We know where we can and must improve. Ultimately, we would like to finish in the top third again.”…

on the squad structure: ‘We’re taking the same team into the second half of the season. We have to look at what we’re planning across the seasons and think about what goals we’re setting for the future in the summer. The measures that follow from this then have to be considered, but I can’t comment on that today.’
