Champions League: Arsenal want to get back on the winning track, Bayern want to top the group

Arsenal could already book their ticket for the knockout phase in today’s Champions League game. Bayern are on the verge of winning the group, while Union Berlin are still waiting for their first CL points.

Arsenal host Sevilla at the Emirates Stadium in an important Champions League game tonight.

Mikel Arteta’s side have suffered two defeats recently. After Arsenal were knocked out of the League Cup by West Ham, their first defeat of the season in the league came at the hands of Newcastle. Now they want to get back on the winning track.

However, Arteta will have to do without striker Gabriel Jesus, who scored the goal that put Arsenal 2-0 up in the last game against Sevilla. Tomas Partey is also injured, and Martin Ødegaard’s fitness is uncertain.

Around two weeks ago, Sevilla suffered a 2-1 defeat against Arsenal despite scoring a goal. Under new coach Diego Alonso, things are not going well for the Spaniards yet. They have drawn their last four league games, including a point against Real Madrid.

Group B: Arsenal want a ticket for the knockout phase

Sevilla would need to win to avoid falling behind in the Champions League group. However, they will likely have to plan without defensive stalwart Sergio Ramos, who is suffering from a muscle injury.

Arsenal, on the other hand, could secure a place in the knockout phase with a win in Group B. If Lens win in the parallel game in Eindhoven, Sevilla would have little chance of progressing if they lose to Arsenal.

Group A: Bayern on the verge of winning the group
Meanwhile, FC Bayern can seal first place in Group A with a home win against Galatasaray Istanbul. In the first leg in Istanbul, the Munich team had a difficult time against Galatasaray, who played particularly strongly in the first half, and the jeering of the home fans, but ultimately won 3-1.

Manchester United will also be hoping for a win for FC Bayern. With three points against Copenhagen, they could move past Galatasaray to second place in the group, while Copenhagen would be level on points with the runners-up from Turkey if they win.

Group C: Union finally wants to get its first points
Union Berlin will try to get their first Champions League points in club history from Naples in Group C. Urs Fischer’s team are currently bottom of the pile. After an incredible 12 defeats in a row across all competitions, the coach’s job in Berlin may be starting to falter. They recently lost 3-0 at home to Eintracht Frankfurt.

Real Madrid can secure their place in the knockout phase with a win against Braga; the Madrilenians are currently in first place in the group with nine out of nine points.

Group D: Inter Milan and Real Sociedad could qualify for the knockout phase
Benfica are still waiting to win their first point in Group D. The Portuguese have to play against the group leaders Real Sociedad.

Inter Milan are level on points with Real Sociedad in second place. A win for the Italians against RB Salzburg would secure their place in the next round, as would a win for the Spanish side against Benfica.
