VfL Bochum picked up a point at Eintracht Frankfurt – another draw. And the point against the sixth-placed team was not a lucky one, with Bochum also earning their goal with good offensive action.
“We survived Frankfurt’s pressure phase – albeit luckily – and stabilized again. That hasn’t always been the case in the past, but I think we’re seeing a clear development this season,” VfL sporting director Marc Lettau recognized progress in Bochum’s play.
In a fast-paced game worth watching, Omar Marmoush (14th) and Moritz Broschinski (17th) had already scored early. There were a few more chances in the game. “The game could have gone either way over 90 minutes, it was pretty fast and pretty wild towards the end. All in all, I think it was a fair 1-1,” Lettau summed up at the end.
In doing so, VfL by no means rested on the draw in the final phase, but played for victory. The 38-year-old sporting director was also pleased: “We tried with all our might to reward ourselves today. We’ve played ten draws in 21 games, so we tried everything today to go for victory. But we’re happy to take the point, that’s okay.”
In the first half in particular, VfL were the more dangerous team, but they lacked composure in front of goal. “It’s positive that we’re getting into good positions at Eintracht Frankfurt too and creating chances. There’s still room for improvement in front of goal, but we’re working on it,” said Lettau.
With Asian Cup returnee Takuma Asano, with whom Lettau emphasizes that he is “very happy that he is back and part of the team”, Bochum will face FC Bayern at Castroper Straße next week. And with Keven Schlotterbeck and captain Anthony Losilla, the players have already shown their fighting spirit.
