Things have been running smoothly for ETB Schwarz-Weiß Essen for weeks. There have been nothing but victories to report. Now, even during the break, they have won a test match.
Good news for all fans who support ETB Schwarz-Weiß Essen. During the week, ETB’s U19 Niederrheinliga team caused a surprise.
In the district cup quarter-finals, the Oberliga representative’s A-youth team defeated the U19 team of Landesliga club SG Schönebeck. In the U19 Niederrheinliga, the two teams are separated by seven places – ETB is eleventh, SGS fourth. This made ETB’s 6-4 victory on penalties all the more surprising.
“It’s always nice when there’s something positive to report about the youth teams. Now the boys are in the district cup semifinals. That’s a good thing for the players and the club,” said ETB head coach Damian Apfeld, praising the black-and-white talents’ progress.
Meanwhile, ETB’s first team also recorded another victory. After seven consecutive wins in the league and reaching the round of 16 in the Niederrhein Cup, they continued their winning streak with a victory in a friendly match.
Regional league side ESC Rellinghausen didn’t stand a chance in ETB’s 4-0 win.
Apfeld: “We had a few phases where we moved the ball very well. All the players moved very, very well and many of them were able to get some playing time and gain match practice. That was very important for the busy weeks ahead. So from our point of view, it was a successful test. It went exactly as we had imagined.”
The next Oberliga match is on Wednesday (October 16, 7:30 p.m.) at SSVg Velbert – a real top-of-the-table clash.
