Stadium still not ready! Home game against Schalke 04 II postponed

Türkspor Dortmund was supposed to host FC Schalke 04 II at its temporary home ground in Hagen this weekend. Supposed to.

This time it was supposed to happen. On Saturday, October 19, at 2 p.m., Türkspor Dortmund was supposed to host FC Schalke 04 II in the Regionalliga West at its home ground in Hagen. But it’s not going to happen.

This is because the Ischelandstadion in Hagen is still not suitable for regional league matches. The previous home game against Fortuna Cologne, which should have been played in Velbert, was already canceled because the stadium rent would have been too high.

But now Türkspor is supposed to move back to the IMS Arena of SSVg Velbert. The match against the Knappen reserve team is to be rescheduled for mid-November. This was announced by FC Schalke 04. The match will be rescheduled for Friday, November 15, at 7:30 p.m. at the IMS Arena of SSVg Velbert.

Instead of the planned regional league match, the U23 team will play a friendly against SV Schermbeck this week. Kick-off at Rasenplatz 04 is on Thursday evening, October 17, at 7 p.m. Admission is free.

Schalke II was originally supposed to be Türkspor’s first guest in Hagen and the stadium. “The city of Hagen assured us of that,” Tuna Kuyabasi, Türkspor’s sporting director, recently confirmed to RS. The club cannot and does not want to host any more games in Velbert.

Türkspor’s sporting director calculated what the change of home venue means for the Dortmund-based club. “In Hagen, we pay €1,000 per month in stadium rent. On top of that, there are costs for security personnel and catering. In the worst case, for example for the home game against MSV Duisburg, we are talking about costs of around €10,000 per game.”

However, this would be offset by income from beverage sales, which had previously been reserved for SSVg Velbert as the stadium’s landlord. “We’ll finish the season like this. With the Ischelandstadion as our home ground, we can do it,” Kayabasi said confidently.

Whether Türkspor will also play in the fourth division next season is another matter, however. The team has suffered four defeats in a row, including two heavy losses (3-7 against SC Paderborn II and 0-7 against Fortuna Düsseldorf II).
