Attacks and good figures – Rot-Weiss Essen’s AGM and the consequences

There was no question time at Rot-Weiss Essen’s general meeting. Instead, a new topic came to the fore – one that could have been avoided.

Even during the international break, there is plenty to discuss at Rot-Weiss Essen. First, there was the next sporting success after the small breakthrough in the 3rd league with a 2-1 win against Viktoria Cologne.

RWE beat Oberliga side VfB Hilden 2-0 to reach the quarter-finals of the Niederrhein Cup. However, RWE coach Christoph Dabrowski was not really satisfied with the performance, which was unfortunately marred by riots between Essen and Düsseldorf fans.

The general meeting was held the day after the cup match. On the one hand, RWE presented very respectable figures, and the outlook presented by the two Essen board members, Marc-Nicolai Pfeifer and Alexander Rang, suggests that RWE is on the right track.

However, there were also barbs from the current supervisory board directed at the former executive board around Marcus Uhlig and Sascha Peljhan. Essen’s supervisory board chairman Lothar Oelert hinted that Peljhan had tried to use his sponsorship to push through or reject certain people in the club.

He also announced that Peljhan had granted former boss Marcus Uhlig a salary advance of around €15,000. This has since been repaid, but may not be compatible with the articles of association, according to Oelert.

In the new episode of our talk show “vonne Hafenstraße – Inside RWE,” we discuss the sporting situation, the attacks by the supervisory board, and the results of the general meeting with host Katrin Böcker, RWE reporter Martin Herms, and forecasting editor Christian Brausch.
