With professional support and outnumbered, Cologne II defeats Wuppertaler SV

1. FC Köln II ended its losing streak in the Regionalliga West against Wuppertaler SV.

Wuppertaler SV continues to tread water. On Friday evening, the team played its fourth game in a row without a win in the Regionalliga West, losing 1-2 (1-2) at home to 1. FC Köln’s second team.

The Cologne reserves, with 185-time Bundesliga professional Mark Uth in the starting line-up, got off to a flying start. After just four minutes, the visitors were already 1-0 up. Following a fine combination, the ball was played low into the middle from the right, where Maximilian Schmid slotted it into the bottom left corner.

Cologne controlled the ball in the following period, but then WSV came to life in the form of Kevin Hagemann. After two dangerous crosses that were not taken up by his teammates, he finished from the penalty spot himself. Marco Terrazzino had been fouled, and Hagemann converted to make it 1-1 (22).

Further offensive efforts by the home side came to nothing, while the visitors from Cologne were more efficient: Teoman Akmestanli crossed from the left to Oliver Issa Schmitt, who gave WSV keeper Michael Luyambula no chance with his header: 1-2 – the half-time score.

After the break, both teams exchanged a few half-chances. However, apart from a long-range shot from Emin Kujovic, which Luyambula just managed to deflect around the left post (54th minute), there were no real chances.

Until the 74th minute, when 1. FC Köln II had the chance to seal the win: a rebound landed at Schmitt, who shot the ball wide of the left post from a good position. Then the visitors handed out another gift: Neo Telle was shown a second yellow card for a foul on the wing and was sent off (81′).

Wuppertal’s numerical advantage only translated into pressure in the closing minutes: Hagemann’s free kick went just wide (90th minute), Riccardo Grym was denied by Jonas Nickisch’s brilliant save (90+1) before shooting over the bar from a corner (90+3). The equalizer did not come.

WSV’s winless streak continues, while Cologne ended their own four-game run without a victory.
