BVB’s personnel worries ease ahead of clash with Real Madrid

BVB travels to defending champions Real Madrid as Champions League leaders. No one is talking about revenge for the final defeat at Wembley.

Borussia Dortmund can hope for the return of recently injured players ahead of their Champions League match at Real Madrid. According to coach Nuri Sahin, veterans Pascal Groß and Niklas Süle are on the mend.

And regular goalkeeper Gregor Kobel, who missed the final training session due to an upset stomach, signaled his readiness to play in Tuesday’s rematch of the Champions League final (9 p.m./Amazon Prime) after arriving in the Spanish capital.

However, Sahin will have to do without attackers Karim Adeyemi, Julien Duranville, and Giovanni Reyna, as well as right-back Yan Couto.

After two comfortable wins in Bruges (3-0) and against Celtic Glasgow (7-1), BVB travels to the defending champions, who won the final 2-0 at Wembley Stadium in early June, as the competition leaders. “We want to be brave and we have every reason to be. After all, we’ve made a good start to the competition,” said Sahin.

No question of revenge for the final

The Spaniards are under pressure after their surprise 0-1 defeat in Lille. On the first matchday, they managed a lucky 3-1 win against VfB Stuttgart.

Sahin did not want to talk about revenge for the final at Wembley. “If it were a cup competition, you could perhaps talk about revenge. But it’s a group game, not a final,” said the coach of the Bundesliga club.
