Schommers – “The team is alive, intact, and willing!”

MSV Duisburg has two challenging away games in the 3rd league. On Saturday, Duisburg will travel to Sandhausen.

After a quiet international break, MSV Duisburg has two away games on the schedule. First, the Zebras will visit SV Sandhausen on Saturday (November 25, 2 p.m.), before playing their rescheduled match against 1. FC Saarbrücken four days later (November 29, 7 p.m.).

As a reminder, the match between Saarbrücken and Duisburg originally scheduled for October was canceled. Due to the nomination of key player Caspar Jander for the German U20 national team, the Zebras exercised their right to postpone the match. The rescheduled match will take place on Wednesday, but first Sandhausen awaits.

And only this game counts for coach Boris Schommers. All focus is on the away game at SVS. Schommers expects a good opponent who has been able to stabilize after the change of coach (from Danny Galm to Jens Keller):

“They have scored points in four of their last five games and also made a statement in the state cup (4-1 against Mannheim, editor’s note). Sandhausen is currently in the upper mid-table. I don’t want to judge their own ambitions. For us, they are an opponent who are certainly defending better and more compactly against the ball now, but who have also conceded a few goals in recent games. Our clear goal should therefore be to go for goals in this game. We want to force one or two goals.”

The team is alive, intact, and willing! They want to go down this difficult path together. Our process has only been underway for six weeks. We are on the way to where I want to be.

Boris Schommers.

Since Schommers took over, the results clearly leave room for improvement. In five competitive games, there has been no win, but four defeats – each by a single goal. The 44-year-old is confident that the knot will be broken soon: “The team is alive, intact and willing! It wants to go down this difficult path together. Our process has only been underway for six weeks. We are on the way to where I want to be. We are always taking small steps. It would be very, very positive if, in addition to the good impressions in training, we could also enjoy some success in a league game.”
