KFC continues its winning streak, bottom team shows signs of life

KFC Uerdingen is racing from victory to victory in the Oberliga Niederrhein. Meanwhile, a promoted team was dismantled in a basement battle.

In Sunday’s Oberliga Niederrhein matches, the pursuers of leaders Sportfreunde Baumberg secured victories.

The runaway leaders had already taken the lead on Friday against Union Nettetal (3-0). Two days later, Ratingen 04/19 followed suit and maintained their five-point gap. Germania won 4-1 against Sportfreunde Hamborn.

Yassin Merzagua (8th, 75th), Georgios Touloupis (10th), and Erkan Ari (64th) scored the goals. Kevin Menke brought Hamborn to 2-1 (64th).

KFC Uerdingen is lurking four points behind Ratingen. The 2-1 win against Spvg Schonnebeck was the sixth victory in a row for the Krefeld team. The highlights of the match all took place in the first 20 minutes.

A double strike from Gianluca Rizzo (6th minute) and Dimitrios Touratzidis (13th minute) put KFC in a comfortable position early on. That lead was short-lived, however, after Calvin Küper pulled one back for Spvg Schonnebeck in the 19th minute. But KFC held on to secure a 2-1 victory. Schonnebeck are now losing sight of the top of the table after their second defeat in a row.

SV Straelen took advantage of this to overtake Spielvereinigung. Markus Müller (22nd), Tom Hirsch (32nd), and Takumi Yanagisawa (40th) scored to give SVS a 3-1 win over TSV Meerbusch, who remain in the relegation zone. The same applies to Mülheimer FC. The promoted team welcomed SC St. Tönis, who were in an even worse position before kick-off, and went down in the basement battle. The final score was 0-5. Johann Noukumo (9th), Julian Suaterna (60th, 68th, 82nd), and Morten Heffungs (72nd) scored for St. Tönis.

Adler Union Frintrop secured a late point in their home game against 1. FC Kleve – Nils Reiners equalized Hasan Akcakaya’s opener (38th minute) in the 80th minute to make it 1-1. This keeps Essen above the line.
