After two consecutive wins in competitive matches, there is hope again at SSV Jahn Regensburg. The bottom team in the 2nd Bundesliga is now traveling to the Ruhr region for a crisis duel against Schalke 04.
SSV Jahn Regensburg wants to carry its recent momentum into Sunday’s basement battle at FC Schalke 04 (1:30 p.m./Sky) and begin its climb up the 2nd Bundesliga table. “A lot of joy and enthusiasm play a role when you get to play at Schalke in this stadium in front of this crowd; it’s something special. Nevertheless, we’re not going there as tourists; we want to take something away with us,” announced interim coach Andreas Patz.
With two consecutive 1-0 wins in the DFB Cup against SpVgg Greuther Fürth and most recently in the league against SV Elversberg, Regensburg are feeling confident again. They are still bottom of the table, but another win would see them overtake crisis-hit Schalke. “The mood is obviously much better than before after two wins. The lads were really happy and were able to enjoy that feeling. That was important,” said Patz about the slight upturn in form.
Jahn has two new options in attack. Christian Kühlwetter and Eric Hottmann are back after missing the Elversberg game through injury. “It will be another difficult decision who plays, but also an exciting one because they are fit again and give us options,” explained Patz.
Striker Noah Ganaus had recently benefited from the absence of the two forwards, but then also made a lasting impression with his decisive goal against Elversberg.
