Schalke II in free fall – heavy defeat against Paderborn II

FC Schalke 04’s second team continues its free fall in the Regionalliga West. They suffered a heavy defeat against SC Paderborn II.

FC Schalke 04 II’s horror run continues! On Friday afternoon, the Royal Blues lost 0-4 (0-2) at home to SC Paderborn II – their last three points in the Regionalliga West came twelve games ago!

Despite the return of injured captain Tim Albutat, Jakob Fimpel’s team got off to a disastrous start at an unusual kick-off time (Friday at 2 p.m. – the U19s are playing Wolfsburg in the Junior Cup at the Parkstadion on Saturday).

Julius Langfeld converted Paderborn’s early superiority into a lead after just nine minutes with a header from a corner. And it got worse: Tim Schmidt brought down Trevis de Jong on his way to goal, referee Johannes Liedtke deemed it a professional foul and sent him off (19th minute) – Schalke II were now not only severely unsettled, but also down to ten men for a full 71 minutes.

SC Paderborn took advantage of the gift, continued to play freely and soon doubled their lead: De Jong made it 2-0 (23′). The visitors then dropped back a little, with Schalke at least trying to hold on. Goal threat? None whatsoever.

Fimpel brought on professional Peter Remmert at half-time. Just five minutes later, he had to watch Joel Vega Zambrano make it 3-0. Paderborn were now finally in cruise control. Remmert at least gave the Royal Blues a sign of life with a shot that hit the crossbar before Luca Gleissner put the game to bed with his fourth goal (81).

After 14 matchdays, Schalke II are second from bottom with eight points, while Paderborn II jump to eighth place with 21 points.
