Leipzig stumbles in Hoffenheim – victories for Bayer, BVB, and Frankfurt

RB Leipzig has lost further ground on the dominant league leaders Bayern Munich after suffering their second defeat of the season in the Bundesliga.

Despite taking the lead three times, the Saxons lost 3-4 (2-1) to TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, who have a new coach in Christian Ilzer, on matchday 11 and are now eight points behind the record champions.

Defending champions Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund maintained their positions in the top group. The Werkself are fourth in the table with 20 points after a 5-2 (2-2) win over 1. FC Heidenheim.

BVB are one point behind in fifth place after defeating SC Freiburg 4-0 (2-0).

VfL Bochum, still without a win, suffered their ninth defeat of the season with a 0-2 (0-0) loss at VfB Stuttgart. VfL Wolfsburg won the mid-table clash against 1. FC Union Berlin 1-0 (0-0).

Frankfurt moves up to second place after victory over Bremen

Eintracht Frankfurt is now the closest challenger to Bundesliga leaders FC Bayern Munich. The Hessians won 1-0 (1-0) at home against Werder Bremen and climbed past RB Leipzig into second place in the table. They are now six points behind Bayern.

Former world champion Mario Götze scored the 1-0 goal in his 100th competitive game for Eintracht in the 45th minute. Frankfurt coach Dino Toppmöller celebrated his 44th birthday with three points.

There was a medical emergency during the game. The person affected was taken away at the end of the first half and “appears to be stable,” Eintracht announced on the X platform during the second half.
