Striker Hoffmann: “That’s a very frustrating defeat.”

VfL Bochum suffered their first defeat in their second game under coach Dieter Hecking. The 0-2 loss to VfB Stuttgart was avoidable.

After a 1-1 draw against Bayer Leverkusen before the international break, VfL Bochum started their first game after the international break with a defeat. In their second game under new coach Dieter Hecking, they lost 0-2 at VfB Stuttgart.

The impressive Chris Führich scored the opening goal for VfB in front of 59,000 spectators in the 53rd minute. Justin Diehl, who had come on as a substitute just seconds earlier, made it 2-0 (78) with his first Bundesliga goal.

Bochum’s next game is next weekend, Saturday, November 30, at 3:30 p.m., away to FC Augsburg. A week later, SV Werder Bremen will visit Castroper Straße.

Striker Philipp Hoffmann answered questions from the media after the game in Stuttgart. He spoke about…

… the 0-2 defeat in Stuttgart: “That’s a very frustrating defeat. We played well until we went 1-0 down and had a great chance before that. We simply have to score. I think we deserved a point in Stuttgart. But we also won too few second balls. It’s extremely important to win those balls. We concede goals too easily, but I also saw a lot of good things.”

.. the positives: “We defended compactly and Stuttgart didn’t really get going. Especially in the first half. Then we maybe fell asleep for a second or two and conceded the goal. It’s obviously frustrating when you slip up once and immediately get punished at the back. Bitter!“

… the next games: ”It’s normal that we still have a lot of work to do. But it will all come. I’m sure of that. Stuttgart and Leverkusen were, of course, opponents against whom you have to stand compact. Now we may face opponents where we will have more possession, and we will have to come up with something.” with gp
