Football Oberliga team ETB Schwarz-Weiß Essen conceded their second defeat in a row against KFC Uerdingen (0:2). That’s what ETB coach Damian Apfeld says.
On Wednesday evening, the eagerly awaited top match in the Oberliga Niederrhein between ETB Schwarz-Weiß Essen and KFC Uerdingen, relegated from the Regionalliga, kicked off.
While the home side wanted to show a reaction to the unfortunate 2-1 defeat in St. Tönis, the Krefelders had the clear goal of overtaking the Black and Whites in the standings with a win. After an intense 95 minutes, Uerdingen were the victors – in front of 796 spectators, the visitors won 2-0 (1-0) at the Esseners.
I think we started the game very well. Unfortunately, we fell behind early on due to an inconsistency in the defence. That pulled the plug on us for a few minutes. But then we recovered relatively quickly.

ETB coach Damian Apfeld, who was able to rely on his top scorer Noel Futkeu (after a yellow suspension) again against KFC, did not reproach his team after the second defeat in a row: “We threw everything into the scale and delivered a good, united team performance. I think we started the game very well. Unfortunately, we fell behind early on due to an inconsistency in the defence. That pulled the plug on us for a few minutes. But then we recovered relatively quickly.”
For long stretches, both teams in the first division played an open game without many highlights or chances. The Essen team played on an equal footing, but lacked the necessary consistency in the final third. Uerdingen were simply too clever and cool-headed on this Wednesday evening. “We sometimes made the wrong decisions in the penalty area in the first and second half. But that’s not a big reproach, it just happens,” the coach summed up.
ETB travel to top team Velbert
The English week will be concluded for the Apfeld eleven on Saturday with another big game – the away match (15 October, 6 p.m.) against second-placed SSVg Velbert.
Velbert, with ex-RWO professional Dimitrios Pappas on the bench, is one of the big favourites for the championship title and is still unbeaten at home. ETB would like to end this streak – in the second top game in a row. Apfeld looks ahead: “Football is a results sport. We’ve only picked up one point in the last three games. That’s a bit poor. We have to collect points again – preferably in Velbert. “
