13 goals! Former talent gets off to a flying start with rival club – Here’s how things are going for the summer departures

While one of MSV Duisburg’s eight summer departures is getting off to a flying start with a rival club, two others are suffering from injury misfortune. Here’s an overview.

Julian Hettwer: The 20-year-old striker left MSV Duisburg in the summer to join Borussia Dortmund’s second team. The move has paid off so far: in 21 games, Hettwer has scored six goals, provided seven assists and is an absolute fixture on the right wing.

Marlon Frey: Frey is also a regular in the defensive midfield for league rivals TSV 1860 Munich, although he has only made the starting line-up eight times in 19 appearances. He is fighting against relegation with the Lions.

Marvin Ajani: Ajani, on the other hand, has been dogged by bad luck since joining Hallescher FC in the summer. He has not played a game since the 2-3 defeat to Waldhof Mannheim at the end of August 2023. Initially, he was sidelined by a knee injury. He is currently still catching up on training and has only played twice for Halle.

Moritz Stoppelkamp: Quite a few people are sad to see him go. Things are going well for Stoppelkamp at Rot-Weiß Oberhausen. He is a permanent fixture in the Regionalliga West, scoring ten goals in 18 games as an attacking midfielder. He also provided eight assists. RWO is currently in fourth place.

Leroy Kwadwo: Kwadwo also plays for the Lions and has fought his way into the starting line-up in central defense. He even scored in the recent 1-1 draw against SV Sandhausen. He has scored a total of two goals in 18 games.

Aziz Bouhaddouz: The Moroccan-born player ended up in the Regionalliga Südwest with FSV Frankfurt. He was unable to establish himself at the Bornheim club, making only three starts in 14 appearances. He scored one goal and provided two assists. He ended his career at the turn of the year.

Vincent Gembalies: After securing a place in the starting line-up for Regionalliga West side SC Paderborn II at the start of the season, Gembalies was sidelined in October 2023 with a torn muscle fibre. He was out of action for a long time, only making his comeback at the weekend in a 3-1 win against FC Gütersloh. He has played a total of seven games.

Lukas Raeder: Initially without a club, then his career ended, and now he’s back after all. Lukas Raeder has been under contract with Oberliga club TuS Bövinghausen since January 2024.
