ETB Schwarz-Weiß Essen has secured the services of a key player. Lukas Korytowski, who scored 14 goals in the last Oberliga season, is staying with the “Schwatten.”
Just in time for the start of preparations for the 2025/26 season in the Oberliga Niederrhein, ETB Schwarz-Weiß Essen has announced a very important contract extension: striker Lukas Korytowski, whose future had been unclear for a long time, will remain at the Uhlenkrug for another year.
The striker recently had the opportunity to prove himself in a trial training session with FC Schalke 04’s U23 team. Alongside Korytowski, several other trial players took part in a friendly match against the African team “Young Elite Academy” (2-0). However, Korytowski and his teammates were apparently unable to impress coach Jakob Fimpel, as none of the trial players traveled with the S04 reserve team to their training camp in Billerbeck.
Korytowski joined the “Schwatten” last summer from SpVg Schonnebeck and immediately fought his way into the starting lineup. Last season, he scored 14 goals in 32 Oberliga matches for the 1959 DFB Cup winners. The attacking player started his youth career at SG Essen-Schonnebeck before moving to Borussia Mönchengladbach and Schalke 04, where he played in the U19 and U17 Bundesliga.
The 21-year-old is quoted in a statement: “I’m looking forward to playing another year at ETB. I know the environment here, which I really appreciate, and I also get and feel a lot of appreciation from the club. Of course, I had ambitions to play in a higher league next season. The opportunity was there, but for various reasons it didn’t work out. I then saw the best opportunity to develop further at ETB for another year and score lots of goals.“
The striker also gives an outlook on the coming weeks and the new season: ”We’ll have to find our feet as a team first, as we do have a few new signings. But we still have a good foundation from last season with some regular players. We want to really push hard in pre-season, gel as a team and implement the coaching staff’s instructions well. I want to be successful here and help the team as much as possible. My goal is to play as many games and score as many goals as possible. Of course, I want to improve on my goal tally from last year.”
