Rot-Weiss Essen currently has too large a squad. Two players are no longer needed and are allowed to look for new clubs despite having valid contracts.
As of July 12, 2025, Rot-Weiss Essen’s squad comprises 27 professional players. Coach Uwe Koschinat believes this is too large a squad. In addition to Dion Berisha, who has been allowed to look for a new club for several days and no longer plays a sporting role at RWE despite having a contract that runs until June 30, 2027, a second player has now been affected.
Jimmy Kaparos, who only returned to Hafenstraße at the beginning of this week from extended special leave due to international matches with the Dominican Republic in the Gold Cup, can leave like Berisha and has been released from training to look for a new club.
Like 22-year-old attacking midfielder Berisha, 23-year-old defensive midfielder Kaparos will not be traveling to RWE’s training camp in Wesendorf at the beginning of next week.
According to RS information, neither former Schalke talent Kapros nor former Bayern Munich youth player Berisha have received any offers ready for signing. Both players are free to change clubs until September 1 and may also terminate their contracts with Rot-Weiss Essen.
