The new team council at MSV Duisburg has been decided since Friday. There were no changes to the captains at the third division club. Here’s what the coach had to say.
The question of who would be captain at MSV Duisburg was quickly answered this year. Unsurprisingly, promotion hero Alexander Hahn remains the clear leader in Dietmar Hirsch’s team. Full-back and left-back Can Coskun was also re-elected as deputy for the experienced center-back.
“Ali and Can led the way last season, through their performance and leadership, including verbally,” said the coach, confirming the positions of his important spokesmen. There had been greater anticipation surrounding the new team council appointments during the successful summer preparations so far.
In addition to Hahn and Coskun, the committee now also includes new signings from Regensburg, Rasim Bulic, who is also vice-captain, and Christian Viet. The six-man group is completed by regular goalkeeper Max Braune and right-back Joshua Bitter, who is now one of the more experienced players in the squad.
The Zebras deliberately took their time with the election, but the decision was not entirely clear, as Hirsch revealed to RS after the 6-2 home win against Belgian second division side Lommel SK at the weekend in Homberg. Commenting on the selection, the 53-year-old said:
“We could have chosen several options. We wanted to bring in some leaders. You can see that in the choices we made. The only requirement we had was that we wanted a young player, a new player, and an older player who had already been here.“
Hirsch describes the new regular six, Bulic, as a ”phenomenon.” The tall, central midfielder is not your typical loudmouth. “But when he says something, it makes sense. The guys feel that too.”
With its current structure, MSV feels well equipped for the upcoming third division season. The mix of experience, fresh blood, and a promising young talent between the posts should not only carry the team on the pitch, but also provide stability in potentially difficult moments off the pitch.
