Back to zero, but injury worries after test against Ahlen

FC Schalke 04 defeated fifth-division side Rot Weiss Ahlen 3-0 in a test match. The Royal Blues had to finish the game with ten men.

FC Schalke 04 celebrated a victory in their second test match of the weekend. The Royal Blues won 3-0 (2-0) against Westphalian Oberliga side Rot Weiss Ahlen and remained without conceding a goal for the third test in a row.

The day after the 0-0 draw against FC Twente, coach Miron Muslic sent a team onto the pitch at the Wersestadion in Ahlen that could probably be described as a B team. The only player from the starting eleven in the Ahlen test who has a realistic chance of starting in the second division opener against Hertha BSC in two weeks (August 1) is Taylan Bulut. The young right-back, who is considered a candidate for sale, was rested against Twente. In Ahlen, Bulut then worked hard on the right wing for an hour.

Schalke celebrated twice in the first half against the Oberliga side: Felipe Sanchez (8th minute) and Peter Remmert (20th minute) gave them a 2-0 lead. However, there was also bad news. After half an hour, goalkeeper Justin Heekeren injured himself, apparently on the back of his right thigh.

He had to leave the pitch and was replaced by young Johannes Siebeking. The extent of Heekeren’s injury was still unclear shortly after the final whistle.

At the start of the second half, there was another injury-related substitution: Tidiane Touré, who had only come on at half-time, had to leave the pitch after ten minutes due to muscle problems. Bryan Lasme replaced him (56).

At this point, the score was 3-0. Shortly after the break, Max Grüger increased the lead with a header from a corner kick.

In the final quarter of an hour, Schalke were down to ten men. Ayman Gulasi was unable to continue. The youngster, who had already received treatment, left the pitch exhausted after a conversation with Muslic, but Schalke had no more substitutes available. In the end, the game petered out towards the final whistle and the score remained 3-0. Schalke now has two weeks of training and a dress rehearsal before the start of the second division season. Next Saturday (5 p.m., RS live ticker), FC Sevilla will be the visitors to Gelsenkirchen. Noode, Sanchez – Donkor, Grüger, Zalazar, Bulut (61. Wasinski) – Gulasi, Ba (46. Matriciani) – Remmert
