Preußen Münster set for record signing

Preußen Münster is set to sign a new center back. No player has ever cost the second division club more.

Preußen Münster is on the verge of a new transfer record: the second division soccer club is apparently about to sign Luka Tikvić.

The center back, who is currently under contract with English second division club FC Watford and was most recently on loan to Grazer AK, is expected to sign a multi-year contract with Preußen shortly. English media are already reporting the transfer as complete. However, official confirmation is still pending. According to reports, the transfer will also set a new financial benchmark in the club’s history. The rumored transfer fee is said to be in the high six-figure range. After Italian Sky reporter Luca Bendoni initially reported a fee of €1 million and a 50 percent sell-on clause, Sport1 wrote of a total amount of €700,000.

In any case, Tikvić will be the most expensive signing in the club’s history. Until now, Martin Przondziono (who joined from VfB Lübeck in 2003) and Torge Paetow (who joined from SC Verl in 2024) topped the list. The Eagles are said to have paid around €150,000 for both players.

Born in Hamburg, Tikvić moved from FC Bayern Munich’s U23 team to Udinese Calcio in Serie A two years ago, where he played two competitive matches. A year later, the defender moved on to Watford, where he only played in the cup. In the winter, the English club loaned him to Grazer AK. Tikvić was a regular for the Austrian Bundesliga club. And he impressed the Münster officials so much that they are apparently willing to pay a record sum for him. Preußen Münster will start the new second division season in a week. They will kick off with an away game against Karlsruher SC (August 2, 1 p.m.). Before that, they will have their dress rehearsal on Saturday (July 26, 2 p.m.) against third division side Viktoria Köln.
