Space too short, solution found – this is how things will proceed in the Wolfsburg case

Where will VfL Wolfsburg play in the first round of the DFB Cup? Several names were bandied about, but now a venue has been found.

It was clear that VfL Wolfsburg would not have to travel far in the first round of the DFB Cup. The first-round match against SV Hemelingen was supposed to take place at the Stadion am Berliner Ring in Verden. However, at 96 meters, the pitch is four meters too short.

Now a solution has been presented: VfL Wolfsburg will play its first-round match at the Weserstadion in Bremen. What makes sense from an infrastructure point of view is bitter for both sets of fans. Hemelingen loses its home advantage, while the Wolves head to a stadium they already know from previous years and will be returning to in the Bundesliga anyway.

There were also problems at 1. FSV Mainz 05. The Rheinhessen club is taking the scheduling of the match on Monday, August 18, at 6 p.m. to the Federal Court. The DFB had justified the August 18 date with binding requirements from the local security authorities in connection with the “Canaletto” city festival in Dresden. Mainz has to play in the Conference League just three days later.
