Hamburger SV and 1. FC Kaiserslautern faced each other in the 2. Bundesliga on Saturday evening.

Hamburger SV’s winning streak in the 2nd Bundesliga has been snapped. After five successes in a row, coach Tim Walter’s team only managed a 1:1 (1:0) against 1. FC Kaiserslautern on Saturday evening. With 25 points, HSV is still at the top of the table, closely followed by Darmstadt 98 (24) and SC Paderborn (22).

With a win, HSV would have equalled its streak from the 1978/79 season. Back then, Hamburg strung together six victories under coaching legend Branko Zebec – albeit in the Bundesliga.

In a wild game with opportunities on both sides, goal scorer Robert Glatzel (24th) put Hamburg in the lead. But after Sonny Kittel (81st) missed a great chance to make it 2-0 with a missed penalty, Lex-Tyger Lobinger (82nd) struck for the visitors.

FCK let Hamburg have the ball from the start and lurked for chances on the counterattack – like in the 19th minute when striker Terrence Boyd headed over the HSV goal after a quick switch. Shortly afterwards, the hosts struck: Glatzel reacted quickest to a rebound.

Immediately after the break, Boyd should have made it 1-1, but he failed to beat goalkeeper Matheo Raab (47th), who had played for FCK until the summer. Kaiserslautern remained dangerous after that, but Kenny Prince Redondo (63.) shot over the goal after winning a running duel.

Ludovit Reis could only be stopped by a foul in the penalty area after an outstanding solo, but Kittel failed to hit Andreas Luthe for the penalty. Only seconds later, Lobinger rewarded FCK for their courageous performance.
