Osnabrück striker cancels victories – full-back leaves VfL

VfL Osnabrück travels to TSV Havelse on Saturday (August 30, 2 p.m.). One player will no longer be part of the team. Departure from VfL Osnabrück: Full-back Lion Semic will play for Helmond Sport in the Dutch second division next season. In the summer of 2024, Semic moved from Borussia Dortmund to Osnabrück with the experience of one Bundesliga appearance. In the past season, the Fritzlar-born defensive player made 15 appearances for the purple and whites, scoring one goal. In the current season, however, he has not been in the matchday squad for three league games. Joe Enochs, director of football at VfL, said of the loan: “It’s important for Lion to get more playing time again. We have been working with the officials at Helmond Sport over the past few days to find a good solution and are delighted to have now finalized the transfer.”

Meanwhile, striker Nikky Goguadze will remain at VfL Osnabrück for the time being. As Forecasting has learned, the former Bremer SV striker – 90 games, 47 goals – recently turned down an offer from West Regionalliga club Sportfreunde Siegen. Dutch second division club De Graafschap is also said to be interested in Goguadze, who is under contract at Bremer Brücke until June 30, 2026.

With Goguadze, but without Simic, VfL Osnabrück will travel to TSV Havelse on Saturday.

VfL head coach Timo Schultz recognizes the qualities of coach Samir Ferchichi’s team. “First of all, you don’t get promoted by accident, it’s the result of an entire season. They strengthened their squad again in the summer, so we’re up against a good team. They lost the game in Aue, but they were in the lead for a long time. And we’re not in a position where we can take any team lightly anyway.”

The 48-year-old is particularly impressed by the defensive work of his upcoming opponents. “They are a very compact team, they often defend in a 5-2-3 formation, which is very difficult to play against. They also have some dangerous attacking players who can create some really good chances in every game. So we have been warned.”
