ETB celebrates first win of the season despite being two men down – Ratingen tops the table

ETB Schwarz-Weiß Essen celebrates its first three points of the season. Ratingen 04/19 takes the lead in the Oberliga Niederrhein table.

Despite two red cards, ETB Schwarz-Weiß Essen beat SV Sonsbeck 2-1 (2-1).

The home side took control from the start, putting the visitors under pressure, but without creating any clear chances. Instead, the first dangerous scene was created by SV Sonsbeck, but Haar intervened at the last second (12th minute). Two minutes later, the Black and Whites combined well from their own half to create a numerical advantage, but failed to capitalize on it. Sonsbeck survived the first 20 minutes, fought their way back into the game, and even took the lead. And it was a curious one. ETB keeper Golz made a corner kick sharp with a failed fist save, Pokora attempted an overhead kick, which landed on Keisers’ head – 0-1 (26′).
Shortly before halftime, Essen not only found the right answer: Jan Corsten made it 1-1 (39′) with a magnificent free kick from the edge of the penalty area. They even turned the game around: Haar found Korytowski with a lob behind the defense, who kept his cool against the keeper and scored to make it 2-1 (45′).

Shortly after the break, the hosts suddenly suffered a setback: Haar lost the ball in his own half, tackled his opponent with his body and was shown a red card – a harsh decision (46′).

Despite being a man down, ETB had several chances to make it 3-1, but failed to convert any of them. It would not come back to haunt them.

Sonsbeck only became dangerous in the closing stages, but couldn’t find a way through against Essen, who even had another player sent off in stoppage time (yellow-red card for Kaminski).
