WSV celebrate first win under new coach Dogan

Wuppertaler SV won 2:1 at 1. FC Kaan-Marienborn in the Regionalliga and landed a liberation strike.

Wuppertaler SV wanted to attack in the Regionalliga West and play for promotion. Before the away game at 1. FC Kaan-Marienborn, however, the reality was different.

Level on points with the first relegation place, the season is not going as well as hoped in the Bergisches Land. That’s why there was already the first change of coach, but even under Hüzeyfe Dogan, who succeeded Björn Mehnert, things have not gone well so far. Two games, two defeats, and now a deserved 2:1 (1:0) at 1. FC Kaan-Marienborn. The people in charge at the Bergisch club must have felt a weight lifted off their shoulders.

In Kaan-Marienborn, WSV got off to the start they had hoped for. The Wuppertal team took the lead after just six minutes – Tobias Peitz was on target for Dogan’s team. As Moritz Montag and Serhat-Semih Güler missed the 2:0, Kaan almost equalised before the break.

After a mistake by Philipp Hanke, whose header towards his own goal was too short, Arthur Tomas had the chance to make it 1-1, but the defensive player missed the great opportunity. So it remained 1-0 for WSV at the break.

In the second period, the hosts looked to take control, WSV relied on counter-attacks, often via Kevin Hagemann. After 64 minutes, WSV had the best chance to take the lead. But again it was Güler, whose shot was cleared just before the line.

Since he didn’t stay cool in front of goal that day, Güler later tried his hand at preparing the ground – and it worked. He found Hagemann in the middle after winning the ball, who scored to make it 2:0. But the hosts did not give up. First Daniel Hammel missed the connection (76th), then Din Alajbegović was on the spot and made the game exciting again five minutes before the end. But the goal came too late.

WSV will continue in the Regionalliga next Saturday (22 October, 2 p.m.) with the top match against Rot-Weiß Oberhausen. Kaan-Marienborn have to play Rot Weiss Ahlen at the same time.
