This stadium will host the 2027 final

Milan had to relinquish its hosting rights for the Champions League final. Now it has been decided who will host the 2027 final as a replacement venue.

The Champions League final will take place in Madrid in 2027. The UEFA Executive Committee has named the Estadio Metropolitano in the Spanish capital as the venue for the final. This was announced by the continental football association after the committee meeting chaired by German representative Hans-Joachim Watzke in Tirana. The 2027 Women’s European Championship final has been awarded to Warsaw’s National Stadium. Madrid prevailed over its competitor Baku with Atlético’s arena. The capital of Azerbaijan will therefore have to wait longer to host the final of Europe’s premier club competition for the first time. The human rights situation in the authoritarian-ruled former Soviet republic is considered problematic.

In 2019, Baku hosted the Europa League final. Chelsea FC beat Arsenal FC 4-1 in a London derby. Four matches were played in Baku during Euro 2021. Formula 1 regularly visits Azerbaijan. The subsequent award was necessary because Milan had been stripped of its hosting role due to organizational problems surrounding the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium. Next year, the final will take place on May 30 at the Puskas Arena in Budapest.

The Estadio Metropolitano was already the venue for the final once in 2019. At that time, Jürgen Klopp won the coveted trophy with Liverpool FC with a 2-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur.
