1. FC Bocholt squandered its chances, but ultimately defeated SSVg Velbert 2-1. This puts them in fourth place in the table for now.
In the end, they lived up to expectations and won 2-1: 1. FC Bocholt came to promoted SSVg Velbert as the clear favorites.
With 13 points, the visitors were safely mid-table in tenth place. The home side were already under pressure. Before the game, Ismael Jaouri’s team had only managed to secure four points and was in last place. But right from the start, the favorites from Bocholt made it clear where they were headed. After just six minutes, 1. FCB had a great chance to take the lead. Following a cross from the right, Marvin Lorch was free to head the ball in the penalty area. The ball flew past the left side of the goal.
After nine minutes, SSVg Velbert also made their presence felt. Timo Mehlich dribbled from the left into the center and shot from 22 meters. This shot also missed the goal.
However, it was to remain a flash in the pan. 1. FC Bocholt controlled the game and came close to taking the lead through Jan Holldack. From 22 meters out in a central position, he grazed the crossbar with a free kick (22′).
This was followed by a barrage of chances for Bocholt, which should have resulted in the lead long ago. But the long-overdue goal for Bocholt simply did not come, so the score remained 0-0 at half-time. The spell was finally broken in the 53rd minute. After a well-played attack, the ball landed at the feet of Nicolas Hirschberger, who placed it in the left corner from 18 meters out. Luis Plath in the home team’s goal stretched in vain.
In the 60th minute, Holldack added another: FCB patiently combined around the Velbert penalty area until the ball landed at Holldack’s feet. The visitors’ captain shot from the corner of the penalty area and placed the ball perfectly in the bottom left corner of the goal.
Just when the game seemed to be decided and Velbert beaten, Calvin Mockschan pulled the hosts back to 1-2 after a cross.
But it was too little too late. The victory moves 1. FC Bocholt, with one game more than their rivals, up to fourth place for the time being. Velbert remains bottom of the table.
