Großkreutz’s successor – He will be the new coach of SV Wacker Obercastrop

SV Wacker Obercastrop won their first game after the coaching team was dismissed. The new head coach is already in place.

Kevin Großkreutz and Jimmy Thimm have been history at SV Wacker Obercastrop for a week now.

“After analyzing the team’s performance, both sides came to the decision to mutually terminate the existing contract. This ends SV Wacker Obercastrop’s collaboration with the coaching team led by Kevin Großkreutz and Jimmy Thimm,” according to the club’s official website.

The Westfalenliga club parted ways with the duo—and won its first game after the coaching team’s departure 3-2 against FC Iserlohn.

Björn Brinkmann, coach of the second team, took over the reins together with sporting director Steffen Golob and goalkeeping coach David Menke.

Points Table

This is not the first time Brinkmann has stepped in for Obercastrop. Following Antonio Molina’s resignation in January 2024, he was interim coach for the Westfalenliga club in the second half of the 2023/24 season. His record: six wins, two draws, six defeats. He then returned to the second team. In the summer, he resigned from his position to take a break from soccer.

Speaking of Antonio Molina: Forecasting has now learned that an old acquaintance will be arriving in Obercastrop on Tuesday, September 30, 2025.

Antonio Molina, currently sporting director at Lower Rhine Oberliga club VfB Hilden, will, according to our information, become the new and old head coach at Westfalenliga club SV Wacker Obercastrop. The 52-year-old already coached in Obercastrop from October 19, 2022, to January 13, 2024. In 36 games as Wacker coach, Molina achieved an average of 1.56 points per game.

Previously, the Spanish-born coach, who was born in Wuppertal, coached the U19 team of VfB Hilden, the U17 team of Fortuna Düsseldorf, and the senior teams of VfB Hilden, SC Kapellen-Erft, ETB Schwarz-Weiß Essen, and TSV Meerbusch. Now he is set to return to SV Wacker Obercastrop.
