Former Duisburg player relegated in Denmark – How the mission to get back up is going

MSV Duisburg is in great form in the 3rd division. A former Zebra is also doing well abroad.

The traditional Danish club Aalborg BK had to make the bitter move to the 2nd division in early summer. Now the mission to get back up is underway. What has remained the same is, among other things, the goalkeeper. His name is still Vincent Müller. The former Duisburg player was the regular keeper in the relegation season and has not missed a game in the current season either. Aalborg kicked off the twelfth match day on Thursday, October 2, with a 2-1 win over HB Köge. Müller was in goal, of course, but had to say goodbye to his fifth clean sheet of the current season shortly before the end.

Aalborg is currently fifth, four points behind league leaders and fellow relegated team Lyngby. After 22 match days, the league is divided between sixth and seventh place. The top six teams will play off for two promotion spots. And Aalborg wants to be there. Vincent Müller was trained at 1. FC Köln. Müller, a native of Cologne, learned to play soccer at SG Worringen before moving to the youth department of 1. FC Köln in 2007. He played for all of the U teams up to the U19s before moving to Würzburger Kickers in the summer of 2019. There, he had the opportunity to get his first taste of third division football. He did so in 25 league games. A year later, Dutch top club PSV Eindhoven came calling and signed Müller for €500,000. However, he was unable to establish himself in the Netherlands, making only 27 second division appearances for the second team in two years. Within two years, Müller was the regular keeper, playing 65 third division games for the Zebras. In the summer of 2024, the club was relegated to the regional league and Müller moved to Aalborg. At Aalborg, the whole package just convinced me. The people in charge made me feel like they really wanted me. They knew all my scenes—even from my time in Würzburg. And I had sought personal advice beforehand,” Müller told Forecasting in November 2024. Despite the relegation, the move has paid off.
