On October 26, MSV Duisburg and Rot-Weiss Essen will face each other. Advance ticket sales for the derby have begun, as have the first taunts.
Fans of MSV Duisburg and Rot-Weiss Essen had to wait a year for the big derby in the 3rd division. The Zebras took a wrong turn in the penultimate season and had to do a lap of honor in the Regionalliga West.
After their promotion, fans of both clubs can once again look forward to two derbies in the championship. MSV and RWE last faced each other in May in the final of the Lower Rhine Cup, with Essen coming out on top 2-1. On October 26 (Sunday, 7:30 p.m.), the two teams will meet again in the 3rd division. Rot-Weiss Essen has also won the last two matches there. In the Zebras’ relegation season, both games went to RWE, with the club from Hafenstraße celebrating an emotional last-minute victory in Duisburg. Essen, in fifth place before this match day, are also well in the race. Duisburg’s magnificent start to the season is giving their fans an extra boost of confidence ahead of the derby. A graphic was posted in a large Facebook group for MSV supporters, which can be seen as a dig at Essen. The graphic was designed by the “KöPi-Hunters Block L Duisburg” section. “Mause sings a song with us,” it reads. The description refers to Jannik Mause’s “favorite song,” which they want to sing together after a victory against Rot-Weiss Essen.
MSV fans taunt RWE striker Jannik Mause
This refers to a taunting song that was recorded in a video a few years ago. It shows RWE striker Mause in a cheerful gathering with some of his former teammates from Alemannia Aachen. Next to Mause is the well-known Alemannia hooligan Kevin P, known in the scene as “Chemo.” Together, “Chemo,” Mause, and other former Alemannia players sing the taunt song “Rot-Weiss Essen, fuck and forget,” which is well known among Essen rivals.
Some supporters from the active RWE fan scene had criticized Mause’s transfer because of the video, but that is no longer an issue. Mause is a regular player in Essen and scored his first two goals for RWE in the last home game against Hoffenheim II. The former Aachen player is highly regarded by his new colleagues.
Rot-Weiss Essen: There are 3945 guest tickets available
Mause and his teammates will receive support from almost 4000 RWE fans at the Schauinsland-Reisen-Arena in Duisburg. 3945 tickets are available for guests, and “Allesfahrer” (fans who travel to every game) will have the opportunity to secure their tickets starting on Monday. Advance sales for members will start on Tuesday. Due to the excitement and appeal of this game, tickets are likely to sell out very quickly in both camps. Fans can look forward to a probably sold-out derby under floodlights, which is also likely to be a top match in the 3rd league. As long as it remains a matter of minor banter, both clubs can certainly live with that.
