The 2:2 draw against Hansa Rostock on Friday evening was not enough: SpVgg Greuther Fürth have parted company with their coach Marc Schneider. The Bundesliga relegated team announced this on its homepage on Saturday morning.

Accordingly, the Swiss was informed of the decision in a personal conversation beforehand. “We have tried a lot in the last few weeks, Marc also tried everything, but in the end we have to state that we have improved slightly in terms of points, but not in the way we all imagined,” Managing Director Sport Rachid Azzouzi explained the decision, adding: “We thank Marc for his commitment, the humanly exceptional and good cooperation and wish him only the best for his future career.”

Schneider said goodbye to the team shortly afterwards before going out. Until further notice, co-trainers Rainer Widmayer and Stefan Kleineheismann will lead training at the Kleeblatt. The former, meanwhile, is still known to the Schalkers as Christian Gross’ co-trainer in the 20/21 relegation season.

Schneider himself thanked the players, the club and his staff in the club’s statement: “Unfortunately, we didn’t get the points we could have. I am sure that the team will work its way out of the current situation. I wish the cloverleaf all the best for that and for the future. “

While the cloverleaves have left the relegation zone for the time being thanks to the 2-2 draw against Hansa Rostock, Magdeburg (against Braunschweig) and Nuremberg (in Düsseldorf) still have the chance to move past on Saturday. Should Bielefeld also win in Hannover in the evening, Fürth would be bottom of the table. Of course, that is far behind the expectations of last year’s Bundesliga team.

Schneider only took up the coaching job at Greuther Fürth in July after Stefan Leitl moved to Hannover 96. Before that, the 42-year-old Swiss worked for Waasland-Beveren and FC Thun.
