Third-division club Alemannia Aachen has parted ways with head coach Benedetto Muzzicato. Assistant coach Ilyas Trenz and U19 coach Carsten Wissing will take over on an interim basis.
On Monday morning, third division club Alemannia Aachen officially announced the dismissal of head coach Benedetto Muzzicato and assistant coach Noah Hach. The second assistant coach, Ilyas Trenz, will take charge of the team on an interim basis together with U19 coach Carsten Wissing in the next game at SV Wehen Wiesbaden.
Muzzicato came to Aachen in the summer of 2025 as the successor to Heiner Backhaus (now Eintracht Braunschweig) and achieved an average of 1.23 points per game in 13 matches. Shortly before the start of the season, assistant coach Hach joined the coaching staff, whom Muzzicato knew from their time together at Viktoria Berlin.
“After a thorough analysis, we see the need to take this step. After three consecutive defeats and a total of seven defeats, we lack the conviction that a turnaround can be achieved in this constellation. With Ilyas Trenz and Carsten Wissing, we have found a solution that has already worked with the team at the start of the season,” explained Rachid Azzouzi, sporting director, in the club’s own media.
The 54-year-old also commented on a possible successor: “We have defined a clear profile of requirements and will conduct interviews with potential candidates on this basis in order to find the right coach for Alemannia Aachen. We would like to thank Benedetto for his work, whose ideas and approach we still consider to be good. Unfortunately, we were unable to achieve the results and success we all wanted. We would also like to thank Noah and wish them both all the best for the future.”
As part of the dismissals, Technical Director Erdal Celik was also relieved of his duties. Celik had been with the club since 2023.
“I would like to express my sincere thanks to Erdal for his commitment. He took on responsibility during a challenging period and supported the club with great dedication. I wish him all the best for his future, both professionally and personally. We will now take the time to build new sporting structures,” added Azzouzi.
Aachen has not been able to get going so far this season. With 10 points and a goal difference of 17:21, Alemannia currently ranks 18th in the 3rd division. The last-minute defeat against FC Ingolstadt on the last match day was probably the famous straw that broke the camel’s back.
