Losilla ahead of Elversberg – “But they remain a third-division team”.

After the league frustration, VfL Bochum wants to gain self-confidence in the DFB Cup. But beware of SV Elversberg.

The wounds from VfL Bochum’s 1:4 loss to VfB Stuttgart in the Bundesliga are still fresh, and the VfL already has to play again. On Tuesday (8:45 p.m.), the leaders of the 3rd division await the Bochum team in the 2nd round of the DFB Cup, when they play SV Elversberg.

The roles are clearly distributed, but the Bochum team, currently last in the Bundesliga, have to watch out like hell, because they would not be the first NRW team to experience its blue miracle against Elversberg this season.

It’s good that we don’t have much time to think about the VfB defeat. Elversberg showed that they have a good team. But they remain a third-division team, we are the favourites. If we show the face of Frankfurt (3:0 win, editor’s note), they shouldn’t have a chance.

Anthony Losilla

Rot-Weiss Essen lost 1:5 at home to SVE on the first matchday of the 3rd League, and Bayer Leverkusen’s star ensemble had their turn in the DFB Cup – the final score was 3:4 from Bayer’s point of view. MSV Duisburg and Viktoria Köln also lost their league matches against the team promoted from the Regionalliga, which now leads the 3rd Division with heart-stopping football.

From NRW’s point of view, only SC Verl was able to show how to beat Elversberg, winning 2-1 in Elversberg on matchday ten. Accordingly, the Bochum players are also warned.

For example, captain Anthony Losilla, who, however, also emphasises that a good performance must be enough to win. “It’s good that we don’t have much time to think about the VfB defeat. Elversberg showed that they have a good team. But they remain a third-division team, we are the favourites. If we show the face of Frankfurt (3:0 victory, editor’s note), they shouldn’t have a chance. We have to be convinced of that, because Elversberg will try to kick us out.”

In order to overcome the hurdle in the end, the Bochum side will have to put an end to the slight slip-ups in defence, among other things. Losilla explains: “It is no coincidence that we are where we are at the moment. We have to avoid these easy mistakes, they cost us a lot of points. Even in the cup against a third-division team, something like that must not happen. We have to improve a lot here.”

Because the cup also offers the chance to earn a tidy sum of money quickly. That could be invested in new players in the winter, for example. But Losilla doesn’t just see the financial side: “Of course, the competition is important for the club. But we want to show a good performance in the cup, because we need self-confidence, so every win is important. “
