Some of the favorites are still struggling in the 3rd division. At the top of the list: TSV 1860 Munich, which really embarrassed itself on Sunday. The coach didn’t mince words.
4,000 fans of TSV 1860 Munich accompanied their team to their third division away game at second division relegated team Jahn Regensburg.
What they saw probably left most of them speechless. The “Lions” lost 0-4, going down without a fight. At halftime, the score was only 0-1, but even then the hosts had already had many chances to take a clearer lead. This means that the Munich team, which was one of the favorites for promotion, is now in a relegation battle.
They are only two points above the first relegation spot, currently occupied by Erzgebirge Aue. It was the second defeat in four games under new coach Markus Kauczinski. Two home wins are offset by two away defeats. The coach was particularly annoyed by the manner of the defeat and did not mince his words on “MagentaSport.”
He spoke plainly: “I’m stunned. It was a total collapse from start to finish. We deserved to lose by that margin. Jahn Regensburg was superior in every respect. That starts with each individual player. It was supposed to be a war of attrition. But we didn’t accept that and always came up short. I can’t quite put my finger on it yet.”
If relegation is indeed on the cards, this team, which was designed to fight for promotion, does not currently seem to have the virtues that will be necessary.
The opponents showed how it’s done. Regensburg gave a free demonstration of how to work your way out of a crisis.
Munier Raychouni, assistant coach of Jahn Regensburg, who replaced the suspended Michael Wimmer, summed up: “It was a superior performance. Unfortunately, we only had one goal before the break. But after the break, the game can turn around. We broke out of that and sparked everything. That’s our job as the coaching team!”
