On match day 14 of the Oberliga Westfalen, Türkspor Dortmund hosted TSG Sprockhövel. In the end, the visitors won the duel against their neighbors in the table 4-2.
Both teams went into this Oberliga Westfalen match with two consecutive wins. Türkspor Dortmund was one point ahead of TSG Sprockhövel before the start of the game. In the end, the visitors from Sprockhövel prevailed 4-2.
“It was definitely a hard-fought battle from the first to the last minute,” said Sprockhövel coach Andrius Balaika after the game. His team fell behind twice, but managed to equalize both times.
“We showed a great defiant reaction. In the second half, it was still an intense game with chances on both sides,“ he added. The visitors were particularly impressive in terms of converting their chances, which brought them back into the game time and again and ultimately led to victory, which was sealed in extra time with a counterattack to make it 4-2. ”We can be proud of our performance,” he concluded.
Lack of efficiency costs Türkspor victory
On the other side, the mood was a little different. After taking a two-goal lead, the hosts had expected more than a 2-4 defeat. Türkspor coach Maximilian Borchmann had already identified the reason for the defeat shortly after the final whistle.
“We simply have to capitalize on one of the five situations in which we find ourselves alone in front of the goalkeeper. We were very inefficient and, in my opinion, Sprockhövel was extremely efficient,” he explained after the final whistle.
“They certainly had more chances, there’s no need to talk about that, but it felt like it was almost a four-out-of-four situation. Four clear finishes, four goals,” he added. Overall, he thought it was an even game, although he attributed the better scoring chances to his team. However, he did not see a clearly dominant team.
Above all, he was not particularly pleased with the periods after his team had taken the lead. His team was a little too passive in those moments. The fact that his team conceded two goals in two minutes to fall 2-3 behind was the lesser evil for him.
“These short phases after the goals actually bother me more than the two goals, because I think we should have the confidence to do a little more when we’re in the lead to score the third goal,” he concluded.
This means that TSG has now overtaken Türkspor in the table and climbed to eighth place. Türkspor, meanwhile, has slipped back to eleventh place.
