Lukasz Piszczek is pushing ahead with his coaching career. The former Borussia Dortmund pro is taking over at a Polish second division club with immediate effect.
From December 3, 2014, to June 26, 2015, Tomasz Hajto was coach of GKS Tychy in the Polish second division. The club still plays in the country’s lower leagues and has now once again presented a new coach.
More than ten years ago, Hajto, a former professional player for FC Schalke 04, retired in Tychy. After a decade, another coach who made a big mark as a footballer in the Bundesliga and the Ruhr region is returning: this time it’s a Borussia Dortmund player, namely Lukasz Piszczek. Piszczek takes over as head coach of the 16th-placed team in the second division. His assistant coaches will be Przemyslaw Gomulka and Robert Góralczyk. This was announced by GKS Tychy. “We are very proud to welcome Lukasz Piszczek as coach in Tychy. We have had many positive discussions over the past few weeks. We are convinced that hiring Lukasz is a big step forward—for the entire club. His philosophy is in line with ours. We hope for a long-term collaboration,” said GKS board member Maximilian Kothny.
“I am looking forward to the next stage in my coaching career. I have been preparing for this moment over the past few years. Now I can do so at a club with great ambitions and great potential,” said Piszczek, who has 66 caps for Poland and has also worked as assistant coach at BVB and Nuri Şahin.
379 games for Borussia Dortmund
Lukasz Piszczek, who is 40 years old, played a total of 379 competitive games for Borussia Dortmund. The 66-time Polish international also played 87 times for Hertha BSC and 80 times for Zaglebie Lubin during his professional career. In the summer of 2021, he ended his professional career and returned to Polish fifth division club LKS Goczalkowice, where his father is president. Today, LKS is in the fourth division, and Piszczek is now head coach in the Polish lower leagues.
