Bayern’s Karl continues his winning streak – U21 wins in Georgia

Lennart Karl is unstoppable in his rapid rise to fame. The Bayern gem scores again against Georgia. However, the road to the European Championship finals remains a challenge for the German U21 team.

Led by Bayern’s rising star Lennart Karl, the German U21 national team celebrated another victory in the European Championship qualifiers. The 17-year-old opened the scoring with an important goal in the 2-0 (1-0) win over Georgia. After Karl’s groundbreaking goal (45+2), Nicolo Tresoldi (58) from FC Bruges increased the lead to the final score. With better finishing, a much higher victory would have been possible.

In front of 2,929 spectators in Tbilisi, Karl was allowed to play alongside Said El Mala, who had returned from the senior national team, in the German Football Association’s youth team for the first time. Under the direction of the prudent captain Tom Bischof from FC Bayern, the wing duo impressed and can now hope for a place in national coach Julian Nagelsmann’s World Cup squad next year. It was Karl’s third goal in his second U21 international match.

However, Germany remains in second place in the European Championship qualifying group table with twelve points, behind Greece (15). The nine group winners and the best runner-up will qualify for the 2027 finals in Albania and Serbia. The eight other runners-up will compete in playoffs. The German U21 team will continue in the new year with a home game against Northern Ireland at the end of March. His team was clearly superior to the deep-lying hosts, but struggled in front of goal. Tresoldi came close to scoring earlier when he hit the post (25′).

But then, after a corner from Bischof, the moment arrived: the header from the very active Cologne player El Mala missed the target. But Karl was on hand to tap in with his weaker left foot. The superiority continued after the break. Karl came close to scoring his second goal with a shot from his strong left foot (56′). Shortly afterwards, Tresoldi scored with a long-range shot that was slightly deflected.
