RWE and Dynamo Dresden drew 1:1 on matchday 12 of the 3. league. Dresden keeper Stefan Drljaca explains his blunder, which led to the 1:0 for RWE.
Pretty bitter! After the red card for Andreas Wiegel of Rot-Weiss Essen in the 51st minute, RWE could not save the lead over time after all. In the 89th minute, Dynamo Dresden equalised for the final score of 1:1.
Rot-Weiss Essen: Early pressing paid off
The fact that Essen had Dynamo Dresden on the brink of defeat was also due to strong pressing in the first half. Time and again, the Red and Whites were able to force their opponents into mistakes in the build-up to the game. Not least Dresden’s keeper Stefan Drljaca, who shot at Essen’s Isaiha Young in a pressure situation – 1:0 for RWE in the 21st minute.
“Essen were poisonous. Really got on our nerves. They forced us into mistakes, which we then unfortunately made,” said Dresden keeper Drljaca, praising the opposing team after the game. The goalkeeper took the blame for the 1:0 for RWE: “I have to clear the situation in a cooler way and solve it differently. I should have taken two contacts instead of passing the ball on directly,” explained the 23-year-old.
In the 3rd league: Reunion with old acquaintances
In general, Drljaca, who played for Dortmund II last season, saw a strong Essen team: “In the last game against Osnabrück, we played the opponent down. That was not the case this time. I can’t explain why we started the game so badly,” the goalkeeper explained and added: “We have to work through the whole thing. After the red card, we clearly had the upper hand. I’m happy for the team that we still equalised.”
Dresden’s league campaign continues next Saturday (22.10.) against 1. FC Saarbrücken, who were guests at Hafenstraße a fortnight ago and recently parted company with coach Uwe Koschinat. For Drljaca, who was born in Saarland, there will certainly be one or two reunions there.
There will also be a reunion for the Essen team on the next matchday. RWE will then play host to Waldhof Mannheim, who are coached by former RWE coach Christian Neidhart. Kick-off is on Saturday (22.10) at 2 pm. RS will report via live ticker as always.
