“We had a rules training session” – Horn struggles after home defeat

After VfL Bochum’s 1-2 home defeat against Dynamo Dresden, Timo Horn was not only struggling with the poor first half.

Whether it was the coach, players, or fans, pretty much everyone agreed that VfL Bochum lost the game against Dynamo Dresden in the first half.

Timo Horn was no exception: “The first half was obviously weak. We started well, but then gave Dresden too much space. We had no control, especially in the middle,” said the keeper.

He was particularly annoyed by the 0-2 shortly before the break, when Niklas Hauptmann drove the ball “50 meters” across the field, Alexander Rossipal was able to cross unchallenged, and Vincent Vermeij was able to finish almost unhindered.

Because: “Then you have to go into the dressing room 0-1 down after a half like that, and then you have every chance in the second half. We saw that. Nevertheless, at 0-2, we even deserved a point for what the boys showed. I don’t think you can play much better than that in the second half.”

And yet there was another point that Horn had to contend with: the added time.

“I also have to question the four minutes of added time, which is completely unacceptable,” said the 32-year-old, emphasizing: “We had a rules training session where it was clearly stated that referees want to allow more added time. We had a penalty, Dresden was on the ground three times, the goalkeeper took 20 seconds for every goal kick – so I wanted an explanation for the four minutes, but unfortunately I didn’t get one.”

The 0-1 goal, which came after a quickly taken throw-in, also caused controversy during the game. Maximilian Wittek had touched the ball slightly with his head. At least, that was the decision of the referees. Maybe with the tip of his hair, but I can’t imagine that with his short haircut. Some things are checked, then again they aren’t. But let’s leave it at that,” said Horn. However, the TV footage suggests that Wittek did indeed touch the ball slightly.

What annoyed Horn the most, however, was the fact that VfL Bochum carelessly let three points slip away: “Nevertheless, it’s very bitter overall how we lost. When you take everything into account, you can’t lose a game like that.”
