Westfalia Dortmund is preparing to play in the district league next season. To achieve this, the club now needs to continue its winning streak.
15 games, 14 wins, one draw. 103 goals scored and only six conceded. These are the impressive statistics for Westfalia Dortmund. The club, which currently plays in Kreisliga A, makes no secret of its ambitions. Coach Maurice Temme is keen to emphasize this once again. Maurice Temme, how would you assess the first half of the season? Basically, we went into the season with the goal and plan of getting promoted. That was also the case in the previous season. This time, we managed to get the maximum number of points, except for one draw. We are naturally satisfied with that. We have improved a lot in terms of our play and have become more consistent in front of goal. We also managed to collect three points in the first game of the second half of the season. We now have eleven or twelve games left to play and a seven-point lead. Everything is going according to plan. What has been the highlight for you so far? Apart from the 2-0 win against Barop, we haven’t had any close results. The 2-2 draw against Huckarde was definitely the highlight. We were down to ten men after 15 minutes in this top-of-the-table clash, but we still played good soccer and conceded the equalizer at the final whistle. If we had won that game too, it would certainly have been the icing on the cake. And what was the most negative experience? Knock on wood – no one was seriously injured. It’s fair to say that we would have liked to have won the cup game against Westrich. Unfortunately, we didn’t, perhaps because of the two red cards we received.
Will there be any changes to the squad during the winter break?
Due to the fact that we are heading for the district league, one or two players are already offering themselves up. We are keeping our eyes open and looking left and right to see who might fit into the team. However, we are not in a must-have situation. They also have to be a great fit for the team in terms of character. Those were the difficulties we had last season. We are paying even more attention to this in upcoming transfers and in previous transfers. We have now signed two players, Bilal Tekin and Jonas Pöhlker, who are very, very young. They expand the squad and both have the potential to be regulars.
What is your goal for the rest of the season?
We definitely want to secure promotion. There’s no point beating around the bush. Anything else would be nonsense on my part. Promotion has been our goal from day one.
