Why it should work now with a top team

After the 1-1 draw against Viktoria Köln, MSV Duisburg now face SV Wehen Wiesbaden. Niklas Kölle thinks a win at the third-placed team in the 3rd division is possible.

Niklas Kölle has had a turbulent time at MSV Duisburg so far. The newcomer from Hoffenheim is the left defender under Torsten Ziegner. The recent upswing of homegrown Baran Mogultay did nothing to change that. “In the end, we only won one point and lost two. But after falling behind, everyone fought for each other and we stuck together,” praised the 22-year-old after the 1-1 draw against Viktoria Köln.

At the same time, the defender was annoyed that his team could not turn the game around completely after the short period of pressure after half-time. “If we play out individual chances better, we’ll take the three points with us. But we still scored. You could see that we came out of the dressing room with a lot of power,” praised Kölle.

Kölle believes in a win in Wiesbaden

Although the Zebras also failed to win the sixth of their last seven games, the Duisburg summer newcomer looked positively ahead and completely blanked the problems of the last few weeks. “I can’t really say why things didn’t go so well. It was little things that came together. What is important is what lies ahead of us. Everyone in our team sees it that way. We are getting back on track as a team, as we should,” emphasised Kölle, who, like Ziegner, also had praise for the fans. “They have noticed that we have fought our way back into the game and were there in full force. They reward us when we give it our all until the last second. That helps us, of course.”

On Friday evening (28 October, 7pm), the Meiderich side will travel to SV Wehen Wiesbaden. MSV Duisburg have not yet managed to score against any of the top teams in the 3rd division this season. Ralf Heskamp recently even emphasised that they had no chance against the top five. Kölle is nevertheless convinced: “We only look at ourselves. If we show our energy on the pitch, we can certainly beat anyone. “
