1-1 against regional league team – that’s the coach’s conclusion from the training camp

A few days before the start of the second half of the regional league season against Düsseldorf II, Rot-Weiß Oberhausen played its third test match.

Regional league team Rot-Weiß Oberhausen has completed its second test match at the training camp in Side. The match against regional league team FSV Luckenwalde ended in a 1-1 draw, with RWO taking the lead thanks to a goal from Eric Gueye. It was the third test match of the short preparation period, following a 2-5 defeat against third division team VfL Osnabrück and a 1-3 defeat against regional league team 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig.

After the final test in Side, Oberhausen’s Kevin Kratzsch analyzed: “We had a really difficult start to the game and took a long time to find solutions against our opponents’ tight defense. But Eric’s goal put us in a better position and we were able to increasingly take control of the game. We came out of the break pretty well, but then missed the chance to score a second goal. Towards the end of the game, you could see that we were running out of steam after an intense week and our legs were getting heavier and heavier. In the end, it was a decent end to the training camp, where we covered a lot of ground and everyone pulled together. I think we’re on the right track.“

RWO coach Sebastian Gunkel saw it similarly: ”It was the expected difficult task for us against a team that works very well, especially against the ball. We tried to put Luckenwalde under pressure early on. However, it has to be said that the gaps were often too big, which can happen at the end of an intensive training camp. In the end, our legs naturally got heavier and we conceded another goal from a set piece. That’s happening too often at the moment and we need to continue working on it in the coming week.”

In a few days, the Regionalliga West will resume, with RWO first facing Fortuna Düsseldorf’s U23s at home (Saturday, January 24, 2 p.m.).

Before the battle for promotion, Gunkel summed up the training camp: “We had very good conditions and were able to focus on many things, even if not everything went perfectly because one or two players were temporarily unavailable. Once again, we would like to thank everyone who made this trip possible for us. Now our focus is on recovery, because the week took a lot out of all of us. The preparation time is relatively short, but we are already looking forward to the first competitive game against Düsseldorf next Saturday.”
