SSVg Velbert back in first place after victory over TuRU Düsseldorf

SSVg Velbert have climbed to first place in the Oberliga Niederrhein, at least for the time being, thanks to a 3-0 (2-0) home win over TuRU Düsseldorf.

After the defeat in the Lower Rhine Cup against the district league team ASV Mettmann and the 2:2 against VfB Hilden in the previous week, SSVg Velbert has won again. Dimitrios Pappas’ team beat TuRU Düsseldorf 3-0 (2-0) at home on Friday evening and will climb back to the top of the Oberliga Niederrhein table, at least until Sunday.

The home side took control from the start against the 16th-placed team. And after Ismael Remmo had fired a few warning shots, he scored in the 22nd minute to make it 1:0. Cellou Diallo had initiated a counter-attack and Remmo finished ice-cold.

SSVg Velbert continued to dominate the game without creating many chances to score. However, these were used efficiently. This was also the case shortly before half-time, when Manuel Schiebener scored off Marvin Hilger’s rebound off the post to make it 2-0 (44th minute).

After the change of ends, the picture was unchanged. Velbert continued to play forward with verve. Yasin Kaya (via drop kick, 48th) and Hilger (51st) had further opportunities, Patrick Schikowski even failed to hit the empty goal as he slipped away with his standing leg (84).

None of this was a problem for the home side, however, as TuRU Düsseldorf hardly took place until then and did not fire the first shot on goal of the second period until the 86th minute. Only two minutes later, Timo Mehlich made sure of the preliminary decision on the other side with a hammer shot in the penalty area – 3:0 (88th).

The deserved victory puts SSVg Velbert in first place with 34 points. KFC Uerdingen (32 points), however, have played one game less and can already follow up on Sunday (3 p.m., RS ticker) at home against 1. FC Kleve.
