Despite leading the table – Pappas not entirely satisfied

The Oberliga Niederrhein has a new leader. By beating TuRU Düsseldorf, SSVg Velbert regained the lead in the standings for the time being. Both coaches spoke of a deserved victory.

With a 3-0 win over TuRU Düsseldorf, SSVg Velbert have moved into first place in the Oberliga Niederrhein, at least until Sunday. The promotion aspirants deservedly won against the sixteenth-placed team with goals from Ismael Remmo, Manuel Schiebener and Timo Mehlich. In the end, the visitors were lucky not to have lost by a much bigger margin.

Coach Dimitrios Pappas spoke of a deserved victory at the subsequent press conference. “It was important for us to get into the game quickly and to start exuding dominance quickly. We did that very well and had a lot of possession from the start. The fact that we played to nil is also very important to me.”

However, the Velbert coach was not completely satisfied. “We left a lot to be desired,” said the 42-year-old, who complained about his team’s lack of chances, especially in the second half, when a number of the best opportunities to score went unused. “But we didn’t really let anything happen at the back, apart from one counterattack. Today we saw a team that stuck together. Even the boys who came from outside gave it their all. Except for the chances, it was a great game from us. “

But everything we had going for us didn’t really work out.

TuRU coach Francisco Carrasco

His fellow coach Francisco Carrasco was not about to disagree. “We had a lot of things we wanted to do in this game,” the TuRU coach revealed. “But everything we had on the screen there didn’t really work out. In the first half, not much actually happened on either side, but once we were heavily countered after own possession – Velbert did that really well – and the second time we didn’t get the ball cleared properly. Because of the second half, in which Velbert had a lot of possession, the victory is clearly deserved and could have been even higher.”

It continues for TuRU Düsseldorf next Sunday with a home game against TSV Meerbusch. At the same time, Pappas and his SSVg play away at 1.FC Kleve and naturally want to collect the next points in the promotion race there.
