€350,000 Transfer Fee – Transfer Chaos Surrounding Young Striker Resolved

After a lengthy back-and-forth, the situation regarding Can Armando Güner at Borussia Mönchengladbach has now been finally resolved.

Borussia Mönchengladbach and Can Armando Güner: In recent days, there has been a flurry of activity surrounding both parties because the 18-year-old striker wanted to leave Borussia.

Galatasaray Istanbul was reportedly his intended destination. According to reports, the Turkish club lured the Krefeld native with a spot on the professional squad. At Borussia Mönchengladbach, Güner has so far only played for the U19 team. In ten games in the U19 youth league, he has scored two goals and provided three assists. He has also played in three DFB Junior Cup matches, in which Güner has scored twice.

Now “Gala” has confirmed the transfer and paid a transfer fee of 350,000 euros to Borussia. According to media reports, Borussia Mönchengladbach could still receive up to 100,000 euros in bonuses. According to the Turkish radio station “HT Spor,” Borussia was unable to negotiate a share of any future transfer proceeds.

Güner still had a contract in the Lower Rhine region through the summer of 2026. Rouven Schröder, the Bundesliga club’s sporting director, claimed in mid-January 2026 that he was unaware of any interest from Galatasaray. “The last few days have surprised us a bit, because we haven’t received anything at all,” he said at a press conference.

He continued: “If someone wants something from us, they have all our phone numbers and email addresses.”

Schröder also had a bit of a dig: “He’s not a super talent; he’s a talent, like many we have.” The loss will still be a heavy blow.

The reigning Turkish champion and cup winner, Galatasaray Istanbul, currently leads the Turkish league with 49 points. In second place, with 46 points, is city rival Fenerbahçe Istanbul. Trabzonspor is in third place with 42 points. It’s likely to come down to a title race between the two traditional Istanbul clubs. And Can Armando Güner, an Argentine U17 national team player, now wants to get in on the action soon as well.
