Pusch convinces – key games before the winter break

With their fifth win of the season, MSV Duisburg got back on track in Wiesbaden (3:1). Two key games are still on the agenda before the winter break.

The mood was good. Finally back on track, every MSV fan will have thought. Instead of slipping even further, Torsten Ziegner’s team stopped the negative trend and won at SV Wehen Wiesbaden, who had started the season well. The celebrations with the 700 travelling fans, who created a home atmosphere in the Brita Arena, continued for some time after the final whistle.

On Friday evening, the players who had recently been less able to draw attention to themselves or had been harshly criticised by the supporters were also instrumental in the important win. Aziz Bouhaddouz did not score again after his important goal against Viktoria Köln, but showed a completely different body language than recently. The crosses of the speedy right-winger Marvin Ajani also found their man. Joker Kolja Pusch scored his first goal of the season, after the attacking player had been on the bench for the whole 90 minutes.

Bouhaddouz, Ajani and Pusch with strong performances

It is not only the upswing of the three that gives hope. MSV Duisburg still have two very important games ahead of them before the long winter break caused by the World Cup in Qatar. After the home match against promoted and bottom-placed Bayreuth, the team will travel to Aue, relegated from the Second League, the following Tuesday in the English week. Six points are almost a must. Sporting director Ralf Heskamp also wants as many points as possible by the end of the year.

Ziegner, on the other hand, wants to take the tailwind into the next games and show how much the success in Wiesbaden is worth. “It’s important that we don’t take the win to slack off or become arrogant. We had to fight hard for this and we know how uncomfortable the last few weeks have been. I will keep showing the boys the scenes and situations that were crucial to why we won the game. We will tackle that and continue to be focused,” the coach stressed on the Magenta Sport microphone.

At the end of the weeks of truth, FC Ingolstadt will come to the Schauinsland-Reisen-Arena on 12 November. The Zebras showed on Matchday 14 that they can also win against a top team in the 3rd Division.
