Even without video review, there are regular debates about refereeing in the 3. Liga. Two clubs have already had a lot of bad luck when it comes to bad calls.

Every week, debates flare up in the 3. Liga over refereeing decisions. Admittedly, this isn’t unique to this league. The top two divisions have video review, but it still doesn’t work the way it was originally intended.

In the 3rd League, former referee Babak Rafati analyzes the weekend’s controversial situations for “Liga3online” after every matchday. After 14 matchdays, the website has now analyzed which teams have been disadvantaged and how often.

By far the unluckiest teams were SC Verl and TSV 1860 Munich. The East Westphalian side has suffered a whopping ten incorrect decisions against them, two of which resulted in a goal, six in a penalty kick, and two in a red card.

In second place are the Lions, who had to swallow nine incorrect decisions against them. One led to a goal conceded, five to penalty kicks, and three to red cards.

Third place is shared by Hansa Rostock, VfL Osnabrück, and MSV Duisburg. All three teams had to deal with five incorrect decisions against them each. For the Zebras, this resulted in one goal, three penalty kicks, and one red card.

Things went slightly better for Rot-Weiss Essen, which—just like 1. FC Saarbrücken and FC Ingolstadt—had to accept four incorrect decisions against them. In RWE’s case, this resulted in two penalty kicks and two red cards.

Alemannia Aachen has fared the best league-wide. The team from Aachen has had to contend with only one unjustified red card so far. No other team has “only” one incorrect decision against it.

TSG 1899 Hoffenheim II, 1. FC Schweinfurt 05, Energie Cottbus, and SSV Jahn Regensburg are the next-best teams in this regard. Each of these four teams has had to endure two incorrect decisions against them—just one-fifth of the total recorded by the unintended leader, SC Verl.
