Exciting quarterfinals are on the horizon in the Middle Rhine Cup. So far, the favorites haven’t shown any weakness.
The Mittelrhein Cup continues to hold no surprises. District league team SV Wahlscheid learned this the hard way on Wednesday evening, November 19. They suffered an 0–8 drubbing against third-division side Viktoria Cologne.
Benjamin Zank (10’, 27’, 34’, 88’, 90’), Soichiro Kozuki (22’), Vincent Carus (32’), and Leander Popp (83’) secured the expected victory within 90 minutes.
Bonn SC, a Regionalliga team, also came out on top. Serhat Koruk (32′), Eray Isik (62′), Robin Bird (68′), and Jonas Berg (73′) secured a 4–1 victory over Mittelrheinliga side FC Hennef 05. Levi Dang (12th minute, own goal) had initially put the underdog ahead.
In addition, Borussia Lindenthal-Hohenlind defeated SV Eilendorf 3–1 in a Landesliga matchup.
Favorites also prevailed on Tuesday
On Tuesday evening, November 18, Landesliga side FV Endenich suffered a 1–7 loss to third-division club Alemannia Aachen. Nick Maier’s goal (56th minute), which briefly made it 1–2, ultimately proved to be nothing more than a flash in the pan.
For Aachen, Niklas Castelle opened the scoring nine minutes in. Mehdi Loune added the 2–0 goal before halftime. Just as things seemed to be getting exciting again after Maier’s goal, Aachen brought on Lars Gindorf and Mika Schroers.
And Schroers sealed the victory with the 3–1 goal in the 78th minute. That broke the spell, and Bentley-Baxter Bahn (82nd, 87th, 90th) and Marc Richter (90+2) drove the score even higher.
In terms of the score, Landesliga team Rasensport Brand also kept pace with Fortuna Köln for one half. It wasn’t until just before halftime that Adrian Stanilewicz put the heavy favorites ahead.
But then the game opened up, and Enzo Wirtz (48′, 61′), Salim Hadouchi (74′), Timo Bornemann (83′), Luca Majetic (85′), and Kian Hekmat (90′) secured what was ultimately a lopsided 8–0 victory.
