Rot-Weiß Oberhausen hosts 1. FC Bocholt on Saturday (2 p.m.). RWO fans will be hoping for another red-and-white showcase. Perhaps even featuring Eric Gueye.

A 6-0 win and three goals scored: The last matchday at Borussia Mönchengladbach went sensationally well for Eric Gueye of Rot-Weiß Oberhausen.

And all three of Gueye’s goals could easily be nominated for “Goal of the Month” on ARD’s *Sportschau*. “I haven’t received any news about the Goal of the Month yet. Maybe it’s still to come—who knows,” Gueye told reporters from the *WAZ* after the game. The response to his goals was visible on his smartphone right after the final whistle. “I was happy about the messages—of course.”

16 games, five goals, eight assists: things are going well for Gueye in Oberhausen. The 26-year-old joined RWO from Eintracht Norderstedt in the summer of 2024 and has been a key player ever since—even if he’s gone through some rough patches at Lindnerstraße. The attacking player’s contract expires at the end of the season.

“We know what we have in Eric. But I think the feeling is mutual. He’s had his rough patches, and we’ve always supported him. Right now, he’s in good form. And, of course: We’d love to extend his contract,” Dennis Lichtenwimmer tells Forecasting.

The sporting director adds: “Eric is now at an age where he might want to prove himself in the 3rd League once more. I think he’d prefer to do that with Rot-Weiß Oberhausen.”

On Saturday, 1. FC Bocholt will visit the Niederrhein Stadium for RWO’s final home game of 2026. Rot-Weiß Oberhausen and Gueye could then take another step toward the 3rd League with a win.

Lichtenwimmer: “We know that Bocholt is a strong team. They’re falling a bit short of expectations, but they’ve got a very good squad. We have to go into the game very focused and work hard so that, hopefully, we can celebrate with our fans again at the end. Of course, we want to say goodbye with a win in front of our home crowd.”

After Bocholt, the Kleeblätter will head to East Westphalia to face FC Gütersloh to wrap up the year—perhaps even entering 2026 as the leaders of the Regionalliga West: right now, anything seems possible for Rot-Weiß Oberhausen.
